No Buddha for Decoration!

“It is wrong to use symbols of Buddha in bar decoration and tattoo. It means no respect.” Also, when you go through passport control entering Thailand there are huge signs about how it is illegal to buy Buddha statues for decoration.

Buddhist Holiday: Asala - Dharma Day

Yeah it’s cool it’s a Buddhist holiday today and all... but you also aren’t allowed to drink alcohol (even tourists!) and the temples are closed for tourists too so you can’t do that either.

Bangkok, Thailand. My phone seems to struggle in this humidity, but still happy to be here! I arrived in Bangkok early but super jet lagged so I kept things low key and saw mission impossible at the cinema.

Viking Ship Museum.

I was really impressed by these Viking ships from around 900AD!! They are HUGE (or at least a lot bigger than I thought they would be). It’s amazing they found the ships - they were part of a Viking burial ritual where they would bury old ships with important dead people in them. Also they are really pretty and the detail on them is impressive!

Mediterranean Biome in the Eden Project

The Mediterranean biome was my favorite!! (that’s also probably because it’s my favorite climate.) I saw plants from the Mediterranean, California, South Africa, and Western Australia. I was blown away by the Australian plants - I don’t think I had ever seen plants like that before! (They are the red/yellow/orange pallets of colors in the pictures.) #edenproject

Rainforest Biome in the Eden Project

The Rainforest biome was super fun! I saw plants from the tropical islands, Southeast Asia, west Africa, and tropical South America. I once tried to raise a tropical plant not realizing it was tropical... it died since it was way too dry this past winter... I would often bring the plant in the bathroom when I showered to help it out a little (humidity). Sadly, that just didn’t cut it for my poor plant. BUT I saw the same kind of plant in this biome and I’m happy places like this exist where the plants can grow peacefully. #edenproject

Eden's Project

I’m at the Eden Project in Cornwall! They turned a clay pit/mine into a garden paradise. It has several biomes (outdoor, Mediterranean, and rainforest). Two of them are in domes. Lots of sustainability research happens here in addition to designing potential “space” biomes to set up on Mars.

Wallace and Gromit Sculpture Trails in Bristol!

Gromit Unleashed! Bristol’s award winning charity sculpture trails where you can see Gromit, Wallace, and Feathers McGraw!!! I found 26 of the 67 sculptures and walked over 10 miles.

Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol

Drove to Bristol! I’m excited to explore the city tomorrow. Our host is an awesome older lady who spent some time in NYC a few years ago. she enjoys poetry and would go to the poetry slam place on 3rd street in the east village while she was there.

I stopped by Abbey Road Studios and saw the graffiti on the wall remembering the Beatles. A construction worker saw me take a picture and said “it’s beautiful isn’t it?.... I wrote that.” We had a good laugh over it.
