View this post on Instagram Wandering around the southern Ghats in Varanasi to the meditation center. We saw people making silk weaves in the dark (to preserve the colors in the threads), lots of dogs, and tons of really old buildings. We learned Varanasi has had 5 names (the most recent is the British name), but each were determined by who ruled here. The city is thousands of years old - one of the oldest in the world. If I remember correctly, archeology dates the city back to 1800 BCE. The city itself is infused with the most ancient of cultures. There are over 23,000 temples here and spiritual ritual is very much a part of every day life here for the people and Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims that come here.
